Tempest
SUMMER 2024
PARTNERS: Platform Theatre Arts & Steps Ahead at The Hive
FUNDER: National Lottery through Arts Council England
Tempest was a six-day outdoor drama project delivered in partnership with inclusive youth theatre, Platform Theatre Arts during the summer of 2024. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Steps Ahead at Hive Nature School in Garon Park, Southend-On-Sea, the project engaged a group of young people in creating a unique, adapted version of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Throughout the week, participants collaborated with theatre professionals to develop an immersive, site-specific performance. They incorporated elements such as puppetry, soundscapes and the natural environment to bring the play to life.
Tempest showcased the power of collaborative art, providing young people with an opportunity to explore their creativity, build confidence and engage with classic literature in an innovative and supportive environment.
“I enjoyed acting with my friends because it put me out of my comfort zone.”
