Drama to Build Confidence and Connection at Southchurch High
Elevator Arts delivered a targeted drama intervention project with Year 7 and 8 students at Southchurch High School, using creative approaches to support emotional wellbeing, build confidence, and develop a positive sense of self.
All students took part in warm-up games designed to build trust and engagement — listening carefully, speaking out loud in front of others, and expressing emotions through movement and voice. Working in small, regularly changing groups, they explored creative tasks and shared their ideas with the whole class. Everyone gave the activities a try, and it was inspiring to see their confidence grow throughout the session.
“I enjoyed being pushed out of my comfort zone.”

The group games, which created a less intimidating environment, played a key role in helping students find their voice. By working with different classmates, they overcame challenges, supported each other, and developed stronger connections.
“Taking part made me feel united with everybody else. I enjoyed group activities to strengthen bonds between each other.”
