Be Bold at Chalkwell Hall Junior School
This term we’ve had the absolute pleasure of delivering BE BOLD: a 10-week drama intervention project for Year 6 girls at Chalkwell Hall Junior School.
Launched in October, BE BOLD was designed to give young people a creative space to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others through the power of the drama, to support the transition from primary to secondary school. Over the past ten weeks, participants have taken part in drama, poetry, movement and group collaboration.
Working closely with practitioners Michelle Barrington and Sadie Davidson, the girls have developed a wide range of creative skills. Together they have crafted original freeze-frame scenes, written and performed their own poems, and built group movement sequences that reflect their ideas, voices and experiences. All of these elements will come together in a final performance sharing for parents and carers - a celebration of their talent, growth and hard work.
Throughout the project, we’ve encouraged the children to be brave, try new things, and celebrate what makes them unique. They have explored themes such as Unity, Strength and Individuality and it has been wonderful to see how their confidence has grown week by week. From hesitant first moments to expressive performances, the transformation has been inspiring. Their speaking and listening skills have strengthened, their creativity has flourished, and above all, they’ve learned to trust their voices and use them proudly.
Watching the participants support one another, take creative risks, and share their brilliant ideas has been a true highlight. The progression in their confidence and teamwork has been remarkable, and we are incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved.
